Cornelius Trantow was born in 1965. After studies of physics in Bielefeld and Oldenburg, he began, in 1992, his studies at the the
„Hochschule für Musik und Theater“ in Hamburg. He completed his basic studies in church music in 1996 with the B-certificate. This was followed by advanced studies in choir conducting under Prof. H. Pardall (diploma 1999).
Cornelius Trantow has taken part in numerous master classes for choir conducting, orchestra conduction, vocal coaching, of amongst others Eric Ericson, Frieder Bernius, Tõnu Kaljuste, Uwe Gronostay and Carl Høgset.
Today he works as choirmaster, lecturer for choir conducting, conductor and vocal coach.
He is choirmaster of the "Hamburger Singakademie" and the „Ensemble vocal“, which has received several international prices, as well as co-founder of the national ensemble „vokalkreis bielefeld“. In addition he works as lecturer at classes for choir directing for the „Sängerbund Schleswig-Holstein“.
Aside from numerous choir concerts he directs opera productions on a regular basis, mainly with music of the 20th century, amongst others the 1998 premiere of the opera „Friedrich and Katte“ of Wolfgang Knuth at the Stadttheater Minden and at the music festival of Potsdam-Sanssouci.
As musical consultant he works with the professional a-cappella-comedy-quartett „LaLeLu“ and other ensembles.
Since the end of 1999 he is professor for choir directing at the „Hochschule für Musik und Theater“ („College of Music and Theater“) in Hamburg.
Since 2001 Cornelius Trantow is the director of the choir of the German-Scandinavian Music Week.
